  Fruiting sub-scrub in Malaysian Forest

Family:- MELASTOMACEAC

Species :- Melastoma molle

Local names:- Hairy Sendudok

Another species from the Melastoma group. A small sub-shrub which better can be described as weeds.

It grows up to 1.5 feet tall but with disproportionate leaf blade growing up to 9" to 3.5". Thickly covered by hairs on both sides. Stalks varies from 0.5" to 1.5" long.

Overall a very hairy plant with hairs on the stem and fruits spreading.

This  is a forest plant but not very common. Found  throughout Peninsula Malaysia and always besides the river.

Seldom flowers but when it does it small white color will soon form berry like fruits, typical of Melastoma. The fruits ripen to a dark color and are favorites for small birds like Flowerpeckers.
