  Fruiting scrub in Malaysian Forest

Local names:- Balik angin, Bayur, Berlekut, Entupak, Waringkanin laki

 

 

When it comes to the name of this plant - "paniculate" in Latin meaning "branched". probably given in reference to the way the inflorescence spreading out. The plant is endemic in Southern China, India all the way to New Guinea and Australia. A lowland plant an could be found up to an altitude of 1,700 meters high. Easily recognized by the white under side of the leaves. In strong wind, the leaves over turn and reveal a clearly whitish under side.

 This is a hardly plant growing well in disturbed environment like dumpsite, grassland and scrub vegetation. Most common in severely degraded vegetations and rare in undisturbed forest. Best on sandy or clay soil. In some places, the wood from the plant is used for construction purposes.

Essence from the leaves are used to treat wounds and post natal cleansing.
