A native of Southeastern Asia to the Philippines. Orchid which blooms round the year. Commonest species of Orchid found in natural environment among the hills. A terrestrial herb with arching broad leaves with prominent parallel veins and a large cluster of small flowers at the end of a long stalk. It can be as tall as 1 metre.  It is sometimes cultivated for its genes. The plant is used to create hybrids and varieties. S. plicata was among the first plants to re-colonize the land around Mt. Krakatoa after this mighty volcano exploded in 1883.Ground orchids can be grown as potted plants and also do well in beds and borders. The color of the Petal may varies from pale to a strong reddish brown, depending on  the time of  its maturity
