Coming from the
family of
CONVOLVULACEAE, the Morning Glory
of the genus Ipomoea is one plant out of the
largest group, with over 500 species of plants. This
large group have plants which included annual,
perennial, herbs, scrub, small trees and climbing
plants. Examples of Morning Glory are Coast Morning
Glory or Cairo Morning Glory is a vine native to
tropical Africa and Asia.
The twinning
climber propagates by itself at time quite a
nuisance as a wild weed. The flowers are more than
showy, they are spectacular
and colorful. In Malaysia, the
dark lilac species are preferred as ornamental
plants seen in almost all gardens of our hill
stations.
There
is a little known
used for the alkaloids contain in Ipomoea plants
which are medically and psychoactive compounds as
