The sole member
of the genus Arundina, this plants is
found from the Himalayas to Malaysia. This species
is often cultivated. Among the largest of Malaysian
Orchids. The flowers are not long lasting. Flowers
appear at
the tip of a long stately stalk and the plant grows
easily. In the sub-montane hill side where it is
found, it is field of pink, very impressive indeed.
Without any changes, several plants are bundled
together as a garden plant. This group will have
fresh flowers daily to give the impression that the
planted orchids have long lasting flowers. For this reason the plant has been
introduced elsewhere as a garden plant
The plant was
introduced to many other countries and also
replanted as wild plants in Singapore. It got its
name as Tapah Weeds. |
